PILLAR 3: LIVING BEINGS - CONNECTIONS
Algorithms mediate relationships, curating, simplifying, optimizing them for engagement rather than genuine connection. Kids growing up in AI-integrated worlds lose the ability to understand direct relationships: with animals, with other people, with the living systems they depend on. Direct connection with all living beings teaches what algorithms cannot: that the world is not curated for us, that other beings have their own needs and agency, and that genuine empathy comes from understanding another's actual reality, not from performative digital compassion. When children observe animals directly, understand how living systems interconnect, and recognize their responsibility within a web of relationships, something profound shifts. They develop the capacity for genuine empathy grounded in systems understanding, emotional literacy from witnessing real relationships, and the deepest resilience: understanding that they belong to something larger than themselves, that their wellbeing is inseparable from the wellbeing of all living systems.
